I Want You To Go To Chelsea

(I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea is the title of an Elvis Costello song from 1978, which some say is partly about the death of Natalya, a friend of mine who OD’ed on heroin that year aged 17…

A decade and a half later and I was avoiding scenes myself – this time in the art world. I had artist friends who were going places, but the way they were going was only too familiar to me…

All that was a long time ago now. But not so long that it doesn’t feel a little strange that I am to be licensed by the Bishop of London as Chaplain to Chelsea, and the other art colleges in UAL…

Maybe this is why I have put off inviting people… but the truth is that I am very happy to be doing what I am doing, and grateful to be doing it here. And so I would like to invite you to my Licensing Service, where oaths will be sworn, art will be performed, and refreshments provided. See you there!
